Welcome to the

United Daughters of the Confederacy® (UDC)

We are a historic lineage organization of women united by ancestry, service, and purpose. Founded in 1894 and incorporated in 1919, the women of the UDC are as dedicated as their founders were to honoring the memory of those who served and sacrificed during the War Between the States. We focus on the service of Confederate veterans, not the government that sent them to war.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, she works in air traffic control management and brings energy, professionalism, and a deep respect for history to her service. She believes, “You can be proud of your roots and still grow into something new.”

Our Commitment

We recognize that our organization’s history is complex and, at times, misunderstood. We’re committed to teaching this history with mutual respect and serving with integrity and purpose. We represent diverse backgrounds, as diverse as the men who served in defense of the South.

Through community projects, scholarships, and support for veterans, we strive to leave a positive mark—one grounded in reflection of the past while looking towards the future.

Our Service

Beyond heritage and history, the United Daughters of the Confederacy® is deeply rooted in service—to our communities, military personnel, veterans and future generations. Our members lead and participate in a wide range of meaningful projects:

Military Support & Awards

We honor our nation’s service members through the UDC Military Service Awards, which recognize veterans and active-duty personnel who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to their country.

Scholarships

Each year, the UDC awards academic scholarships to deserving students who demonstrate excellence, leadership, and a connection to Southern heritage. These scholarships support both undergraduate and graduate education.

Historic Preservation

From restoring cemeteries, memorials and monuments to preserving family records and War Between the States artifacts, our chapters are committed to protecting the physical and cultural legacy of the past.

Civic and Patriotic Projects

Members participate in ceremonies, educational programs, and volunteer efforts that foster civic pride, historical literacy, and remembrance.
We believe service connects generations, builds stronger communities, and keeps history alive in thoughtful and constructive ways.
